Naturopathy is a holistic approach to optimum health that considers and treats the body, mind, and soul using a combination of nutritional and herbal medicines, diet, and lifestyle treatments.

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy uses herbal medicine which may allow the body to heal itself and truly is an art and science that can be tailored to each individual. Through careful discovery and analysis, our Naturopaths use nutritional and herbal medicine to support you on your journey to optimum health.

Naturopathy at Ultra Health Therapies

Our Naturopaths also offer lifestyle and dietary change advice, as you cannot expect long-term changes if you keep behaving in the same way that resulted or contributed to your ill health initially.

We see change as exciting. It allows you the opportunity to do things differently so that you get the results you are ultimately looking for. Herbal and nutritional medicine may take you far and the lasting change is in the behavioural changes you make.

FAQ’s about Naturopathy

  • How long will it take / how many Naturopathy appointments will I need?

How long is a piece of string? Each person is unique and there is no one size fits all answer. The speed of your health change is dependent on your commitment to yourself; your willingness to take the medicines as prescribed, how well you follow dietary and lifestyle change suggestions, and your avoidance of unhelpful behaviours. It also depends on how long you have been living with this issue.

It is not realistic to expect the IBS of which you have been experiencing symptoms for the last 10 years, to be resolved in 2 months with 2 appointments. It is not always possible to measure the severity of your condition and sometimes we need to take a ‘watch and see’ approach. Healing can take months to years and, as mentioned, falling into old unhealthy habits will slow and can sometimes even reverse healing. Long term health comes from an ongoing healthy lifestyle.

  • How much does Naturopathy cost?

Again, there is no one size fits all answer as each person is different. Your initial appointment is $140 with follow-ups $95. The cost of necessary tests can vary from tens to hundreds, depending on what is required for diagnosis and treatment.

Herbal and Nutritional Medicine varies, however, the more willing you are to make dietary and lifestyle changes, the more you may save on prescriptions in the long term. We can certainly discuss costs during your appointment to ensure we prioritise where necessary.

  • Am I able to claim my Naturopathy appointment on my health insurance?

As of April 1st, 2019, Australian private health insurance policies no longer rebate naturopathy and herbal medicine consultations.

The good news is, this decision is now under review and we will hopefully have provider status returned soon.

In the meantime, I have undergone the registration requirements to enable me to practice as a ‘Nutrition Naturopath’ which means some policies that include ‘Nutrition consultations’ may be eligible for rebates. You will need to check with your healthcare fund to confirm that your policy includes ‘Nutrition Consultations’ before your appointment, as consultation dates cannot be legally backdated.

  • What kind of experience can I expect?

Many people don’t know what to expect when visiting a Naturopath, particularly if they haven’t been to one before. Like many professions, we all practice differently, with our own unique skill set.

Our Naturopath at Ultra Health Therapies is here to provide you with a supportive environment and treatments that are tailored to your individual needs.

Whilst we obtain information (physical signs, symptoms, interpret pathology results) in a similar way to General practitioners, Naturopaths are different in that they look at the body as a whole.

Chelsea, our Gold Coast Naturopath, has a special interest in Mental Health, due to her own life experience with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Her other special interests are women’s and children’s health in which she has a wealth of knowledge and experience.
